Khajjiar & Palampur: Places to Visit in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh, a popular tourist place in the northern state of the country famous for its splendid and magnificent landscapes, snow-clad mountains, trekking, paragliding and also cannabis, yes you read it right. If you are looking for peace and serenity, then Himachal is the place where you can witness the beauty of nature, the jaw-dropping beauty will leave you in awe.

Himachal is nestled right in the heart of the western Himalayas, and among people, it is a belief that it is the abode of Gods and Goddesses. And that's the reason it is also known as "Dev Bhoomi". One thing for sure, when you are in Himachal, you are going to hear a lot of mythological stories from the locals.

Among travellers, Himachal is one of the most famous spots as it offers diverse picturesque that one can imagine. Some of the famous places in Himachal Pradesh include Dharamshala, Khajjiar, Palampur, Solan and Chamba. In this article, I will be covering Khajjiar and Palampur two of the beautiful places that you can visit in Himachal. Though there are other beautiful places that one can also explore and are quite famous like Shimla - The Queen of Hills which is the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, Dalhousie and Manali which I will be covering in my other article.


The best thing that I like about Himachal is that one can visit the place any time of the year.


Note: Try to avoid travelling to any hilly areas during the rainy season as most of these places experiences landslides.


Himachal offers some of the best places to visit in the state. If you like trekking, then there is Triund, Hampta Pass, Indrahar Pass and many others though most of these places have become crowded in recent times. There are also other places to visit in Himachal that are less crowded but still offers you the same majestic views and tranquillity.


Khajjiar: Mini Switzerland Of India

Khajjiar, a small hill station in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh is also known as the mini Switzerland of India. With beautiful lakes, forest and pastures Khajjiar offer picturesque landscapes and snow-clad mountains that will make your visit worthwhile. At an altitude of 6500, Khajjiar lush greenery will leave an everlasting memory. If you are an adventure seeker, you can opt for paragliding, horse riding, and zorbing if not, then you can sit back and enjoy the panoramic beauty of the nature that it has to offer.


Places to visit in Khajjiar


Khajjiar has so many places that it can easily confuse a tourist. Here I have listed some of the famous places that you can visit.

Khajjiar Lake: A lush green outfield covered with dense cedar forest, Khajjiar lake a famous tourist spot offering scenic perspective to the tourists.

Khajji Nag Temple: One of the most famous and oldest temples in Himachal lies right in the heart of Khajjiar, Khajji Nag temple that is dedicated to the serpent god. The temple was built around the 12th century and it encompasses wood carvings that reflect Hindu-Mughal architecture style.


Kailash Village: It's rightly said nature is not a place to visit, but it's a home. Well if you are looking for serenity, then there lies villages in the outskirts of Khajjiar that offers a panoramic view of Mount Kailash. The enchanting beauty of nature will leave you an enigmatic smile on your face.

Best time to visit Khajjiar: Khajjiar can be visited throughout the year, but if you want to enjoy the serene beauty of nature then the best time to visit Khajjiar is in summers from March to September.

How to reach Khajjiar: Khajjiar is just 24 km from Dalhousie, and then from there, you can hire a private cab. The nearest railway station to Khajjiar is Pathankot which is at a distance of 95 km. And from Pathankot, you can either take a bus or can hire a private cab.

Palampur: Undiscovered Beauty

Palampur is a quiet hill station in the northern region of the country famous for its tea factory and nature park where you can experience the panoramic beauty of the snow-clad mountains of Dhauladhar range. Palampur is one of the less explored places that offers a serene and quaint environment to the tourists. If you really want to a break from your hectic day to day life and want to quietude your soul then come in the lap of nature. The view of water flowing through the mountain and running to the lush green land will relax your mind and body.

Places to visit in Palampur


Tea Plantation: The lush green tea plantation spread over the boundless land is a paradise for the tea lovers. The aroma from the foliage will be a bliss to experience for all the tea addicts out there.


Neugal Khad: Have you ever wondered to visit a place and lull yourself? Neugal Khad is just the right place for you located at just 3 km from Palampur that offers a picturesque beauty of snow-clad mountains of Dhauladhar Range. Just relax and fall in love with nature by sitting beside the stream of the river flowing through.

Saurabh Van Vihar: If you want to spend some quality time with your family, then this place has got everything for you. Just 4 km away from Khajjiar, Saurabh Van Vihar is spread in over 13 km and is home to a wide variety of trees, plants and birds.


Best time to visit Palampur: Because of the mild climate, one can visit Palampur throughout the year. Though the best time to visit Palampur is from March to November.


How to reach Palampur: Palampur is easily accessible from different parts of Himachal Pradesh as the hill station is well connected via road. The nearest railway station to Palampur is Pathankot which is around 112 km away.
